About the Age Calculator
This free age calculator gives your exact age from a date of birth — years, months and days, not just the year. Pick the birth date, pick the date to calculate up to, and you get a precise answer along with the total days lived.
Exact age matters more often than people expect: school admission cut-offs, government job eligibility, passport and visa forms, insurance premiums, and retirement dates all depend on the day, not just the year.
How to calculate your exact age
- Enter the date of birth.
- Set the date to calculate up to — today, or any future or past date.
- Click Calculate result.
- Use Copy result to paste the answer into a form or message.
Why subtracting years gives the wrong answer
Someone born in June 2000 is not 25 in January 2025 — they are still 24, because their birthday has not arrived yet. Subtracting birth year from current year is right only after the birthday has passed, and wrong for roughly half the year.
Application forms almost always want age “as on” a specific date, and that is exactly where this shortcut fails. Set the second date to the cut-off date on the form and read the answer directly.
Leap years and month lengths
The calculator handles both automatically, which is where manual counting usually breaks:
- February has 29 days in a leap year, 28 otherwise.
- Months are 28 to 31 days long, so “one month” is never a fixed number of days.
- Someone born on 29 February has a real birthday only once every four years, though legally they age normally.
Where exact age is needed
- Government exams — eligibility is almost always “as on” a fixed date.
- School admission — age on 31 March or 1 June decides the class.
- Passport and visa forms — minors and adults follow different rules and fees.
- Insurance — many insurers use age at nearest birthday, which changes the premium.
- Retirement — the last working day depends on the exact date of birth.
Age Calculator FAQs
Is this age calculator free?
Yes. No signup, no limit, and it works on phone and desktop.
Can I calculate age as on a future date?
Yes. Set the second date to any future date — useful for checking eligibility for an exam or admission cut-off.
Does it handle leap years correctly?
Yes. Leap days and different month lengths are both accounted for, which is why the day count is exact.
Why does my age differ by a day from another calculator?
Some tools count the birth date itself as day one, others start from the next day. A one-day difference usually comes from that choice, not an error.
Can I find the gap between two dates that are not birthdays?
Yes. The two dates can be anything — a project start and end, a notice period, or any two events.
Is my date of birth stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
