About the HEIC to JPG converter
This free HEIC to JPG converter turns the photos your iPhone takes into ordinary JPG or PNG files that open anywhere — Windows, Android, WhatsApp, print shops, college portals and government forms. Add one photo or a whole batch, pick the format, and download the results one at a time or together as a ZIP.
Everything happens inside your browser. Your photos are decoded on your own device and never leave it — no upload, no server copy, no account, and no limit on how many you convert.
Why your iPhone photos are HEIC in the first place
HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container. Apple switched to it in iOS 11 because it stores a photo at roughly half the size of the same JPG without looking any worse. On the phone that is a clear win — the same storage holds about twice as many photos.
The trouble starts the moment the photo leaves the iPhone. Windows shows no preview until you install the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store. Many Android phones, older software, photo printers, exam portals and job application forms simply refuse the file. That is the moment you need a plain JPG.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Add your photos — a single HEIC file, or as many as you need at once.
- Choose the output format: JPG for normal photos, or PNG when you want a lossless copy.
- Select Convert HEIC to JPG and wait for the previews to appear.
- Check the photo preview, then use Download JPG for one image or Download all (ZIP) for the whole batch.
Use Clear whenever you want to empty the list and start again with a fresh set of photos.
JPG or PNG — which one should you choose
For camera photos, choose JPG nearly every time. JPG is what every website, portal and printer expects, and it keeps the file small. It is a lossy format, but at the quality this converter uses the difference is not something you will see on a photograph.
Choose PNG only when you have a reason to: a screenshot, a picture of a document or a receipt where fine text must stay razor sharp, or an image you plan to edit again afterwards. PNG never throws detail away, but a PNG of a normal photo is usually several times larger than the JPG.
Uploading to an exam or government portal
Most Indian application forms ask for a JPG or JPEG under a fixed size — often 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB — and they reject HEIC outright. The order that works is:
- Convert the HEIC to JPG here first.
- If the JPG is still over the limit, run it through the Image Compressor and lower the size until it fits.
- Open the final file once before uploading, so you can see the photo is still clear.
Renaming a HEIC file to .jpg does not work. The name changes but the data inside does not, and the portal reads the data.
Stop your iPhone making HEIC files at all
If you keep hitting this problem, change the camera setting once and it stops happening. On the iPhone open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are saved as JPG from then on. Photos already in your library stay HEIC, so you will still need this converter for those.
There is a second setting worth knowing. Under Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC, choosing Automatic makes the iPhone convert photos to JPG while copying them over a cable.
HEIC to JPG FAQs
Is this HEIC to JPG converter really free?
Yes. There is no account, no signup and no watermark, and no limit on how many photos you convert or download.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device. Your photos are never sent to this website or to any other server, which matters when you are converting documents, ID cards or family pictures.
Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce the quality?
JPG is a lossy format, so in strict terms a little information is discarded. In practice you will not see a difference on a photograph at normal viewing size. If you want a copy with nothing thrown away at all, choose PNG instead.
Why is my converted JPG larger than the original HEIC?
That is normal and expected. HEIC uses much newer and more efficient compression than JPG, so the same picture usually needs about twice the space once it becomes a JPG. You are trading file size for a format that opens everywhere.
Can I convert more than one HEIC photo at a time?
Yes. Add as many photos as you need, convert them together, and use Download all (ZIP) to save the whole batch in one file instead of clicking through them one by one.
How do I stop my iPhone saving photos as HEIC?
Open Settings → Camera → Formats on the iPhone and select Most Compatible. Every new photo is then saved as JPG. Existing HEIC photos in your library are not changed.
What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF is the format standard; HEIC is Apple’s file extension for it. For everyday purposes they are the same thing, and this converter accepts both.
